La gestualità dei Napoletani

Il linguaggio del nostro popolo è doppio, con le parole, e co’ gesti. Questo secondo è pieno di grazie, e filosofia insieme. <<È sorprendente il vedere due persone, le quali in distanza, e fra il chiasso delle più popolate strade di Napoli si parlano fra di loro, e si comprendono bene>>. Così scriveva nel 1819 Andrea de Jorio (Procida 1769 – Napoli 1851), l’archeologo napoletano che si era proposto di dimostrare la persistenza della gestualità greca in quella dei moderni abitanti di Napoli (cfr. La mimica degli antichi investigata nel gestire napoletano, 1832, rist. anast. 1979.

Ancor prima nel 1816, i turisti provenienti dalla Gran Bretagna e dalla Germania che venivano a Napoli erano affascinati dai costumi dei napoletani, che cominciarono ad essere descritti profusamente nel sempre crescente numero di stampe che venivano pubblicate, specialmente a beneficio dei visitatori stranieri. Una di queste stampe del 1825, di Saverio della Gatta, fu intitolata “Muti parlanti napoletani”.

La mimica facciale dei napoletani è unica, basta pensare alla mimica della maschera di Pulcinella, a quella di Totò, Eduardo, Viviani ed a quella del compianto Troisi.

Il popolo napoletano è comunicatore; la comunicazione non verbale serve ad enfatizzare quella verbale quando il napoletano può esprimere la sua teatralità.

The gesture of Neapolitans

The language of our people is double, with the words, and with gestures. The second is full of grace, and philosophy together. <<It is surprising to see two people, which in the distance, and from the uproar of the most populated streets of Naples are spoken between them, and them understand very well>>.  Wrote in 1819 Andrea de Jorio (1769 Procida - Naples 1851), the Neapolitan archaeologist who set out to demonstrate the persistence of the Greek gesture in that of the modern inhabitants of Naples (cfr. The expressions of the ancient investigated in managing Neapolitan, 1832 , repr. anast. 1979.

Even earlier in 1816, tourists from Britain and Germany who came to Naples were fascinated by the Neapolitan customs, which began to be described profusely in the increasing number of prints that were published, especially for the benefit of foreign visitors. One of these prints in 1825, Saverio della Gatta, was entitled "Muti Neapolitan speakers."

The facial expressions of the Neapolitan is unique, just think of the expressions of the mask of Pulcinella, that of Totò, Eduardo, Viviani and to that of the late Troisi.

The people of Naples has communicator; non-verbal communication serves to emphasize the verbal when the Neapolitan can express their theatricality.

La Befana a Napoli

La tradizionale notte dell’Epifania a Napoli ha dei luoghi simbolo che fanno di questo evento un tradizionale appuntamento per grandi e piccini.

La notte tra il 5 ed il 6 Gennaio si appendono le calze al camino o fuori dalla finestra in attesa che arrivi la Befana a riempirle di dolci se siamo stati buoni o di carbone se non siamo stati buoni.

A Napoli, questa tipica notte, ha un luogo particolare che la contraddistingue, cioè Piazza del Carmine che per questa vecchietta si imbandisce di tante bancarelle piene di dolci tradizionali e non, fatti a mano o confezionati in attesa di essere acquistati dai napoletani per i propri piccini. Non solo dolciumi ma anche le più variegate calze per chi ancora non avesse provveduto ad averne una.

Non solo la Zona del Mercato è presa d’assalto dalle persone per questa nottata così particolare ma anche altre zone della città dove i più grandi si recano per prendere dolci e giocattoli per i più piccini. Infatti quest’anno ci saranno manifestazioni per la preparazione del cioccolato dove in quattro sessioni tutti potranno assistere a come si prepara il cioccolato ed a degustare le sfoglie di cioccolato preparate.

Mangiando un dolcetto e giocando in compagnia a Napolitan Revenge l’Epifania diventa una divertente giornata.

Epiphany in Naples

The traditional Epiphany night in Naples has the landmarks that make this event a traditional event for young and old.

The night between 5^th and 6^th  of January, stockings are hung by the fireplace or out of the window waiting to arrive the Epiphany in fill of sweets if we were good or coal if we were not good.

In Naples, this typical night, has a special place that sets it apart, that is, Piazza del Carmine for this little old lady is prepared with many stalls full of traditional sweets and not, hand-made or packaged waiting to be bought by the Neapolitans for their kids. Not only sweets but also the most diverse stockings for those who still had not arranged to have one.

Not only the Market Zone is being stormed by the people for this night so special but also other areas of the city where the greatest come to take sweets and toys for children. In fact, this year there will be events for the preparation of chocolate in four sessions where everyone can watch how to make chocolate and taste the layers of chocolate prepared.

Eating a piece of candy and playing in the company to Napolitan Revenge Epiphany becomes a fun day.
